Surf Fishing:
You will find some great challenges on the 90 mile beach
with a good assortment of species to be had. These include
the occasional big shark, plus plenty of gummies, salmon,
flathead, bream, tailor and of course lots of crabs.
The big surprise often comes in at ninety mile beach, you
never know what you are likely to land, so be prepared for
anything.
Lake
Victoria:
Here is the gateway to the Gippsland Lakes. From Loch
Sport you can boat right through to Lakes Entrance or explore
all the inlets and rivers in between. If it's on the Lakes
then this is the best place to kick off from.
Lake Victoria is also the entrance to McLennan Straits and
Lake Wellington where some great fishing can be experienced.
Ask the locals for the best places to go such as Hollands
Landing etc.
Fishing
For the Kids:
There is also good fishing from Loch Sports beach or jetty.
Even the adults fish here late in the evening where good catches
of Mullet or Bream can be had, with Tailor in the warmer weather.
Flathead and Flounder can also be found just off the beaches
of Lake Victoria.
Bait:
There are ample natural baits to be had within the beach environment.
If you are looking for worms then you only need to pump for
them along the beach front.
Please do not take any more than you
need for the day.
Tip: Try
pickling your left over worms in metho. They still work just
as well and you are not wasting them. They are also easier
to get on the hook.
Prawns are readily caught around
Point Wilson from Xmas to Easter.
Down on the beach at the surf, it is easy to dig for pipies
etc with your feet.
Frozen baits may be purchased
at the Loch
Sport Lodge Supermarket.
Live Worms and other baits are
readily available at Frankies
RACV Service Station.
