The
Loch Sport Community Health Centre was brought to Loch Sport
in 1988. A very great need for medical services in this remote
township was recognized by certain members of the community
who then worked with the Rosedale Shire Council to find the
building, place it on crown land and set it up with largely
community donations to function as Community Health Centre.
The centre today has two part time
nursing staff, supported by a receptionist, who generally looks
after the medical needs of the town folk. They confer with Sale
Doctors to try and reduce visits to Sale to seek medical help.
The staff deal with medical emergencies,
do health screening tests, provide clinics for special needs,
monitor blood pressures, diabetic screening, weigh ins, provide
general and specific education regarding diseases, procedures,
healthy life choices, work with the Primary School children, provide
Maternal and Child Health Services and specialize areas when needed.
As an outreach centre from Central
Gippsland Health Services we can also provide outreach podiatry,
visiting physiotherapy, home support, visiting nursing, hospice
and hospital in the home.
The Community Health Centre also
hosts a visiting Doctor half a day per week for the residents,
we have a visiting Naturopath and Massage Therapist, we run an
aged frail group for men and women and we hire out the community
room for groups and functions.
A community bus is also available
for hire.
